BMX-Flatland is a BMX discipline were tricks are being done on flat ground. With this fact BMX-Flatland riders distinguish themselves from all other BMX riders. BMX-Flatland riders also distinguish themselves from other BMX riders by solely sticking to the Flatland disciplines were other riders normally master multiple disciplines of the sport.
At BMX-Flatland tricks are executed by spinning and balancing on the bike in several different body & bike positions. BMX-Flatrand riders regularly use aluminium pegs to stand on and to move the bike into all kinds of (new) positions.
BMX-Flatland bikes normally have a shorter wheelbase than other BMX bikes. This shorter wheelbase askes for less physical effort to spin the bike or the ride on one wheel. One of the most important reasons why BMX-Flatland riders limit themselves to the Flatland discipline is because of the reduced stability of short BMX-Flatland bikes at the other BMX disciplines.
You can find a variety of options on a BMX-Flatland bike. Most Flatland rides use 4 pegs, one on every side of the wheel axes. Most of the pegs are made of aluminium and have extra profile for more grip. Depending on the style of the rider, the Flatland bike is equipped with only a front brake, only a back brake, front & back brakes or no brakes at all. Flatland bikes always have a low gearing to be able to gain speed easily.
